How would you define leadership? What qualities should a leader possess?

Leadership is the prerequisite of being able to encourage a group of people to act towards accomplishing a challenging goal with effectiveness and efficiency. It is all about setting the right example for your team members to follow and work on it. There are a lot of aspects which are responsible for an organisation’s success and leadership has got a major role in the growth of the company.

A respectable leader should be confident, diligent, impartial, flexible, an effective communicator and most importantly visionary.  An exceptional leader must incorporate new approaches without getting distracted from the main goals.                         

What leadership traits would you advise young leaders and entrepreneurs to learn? 

The business world is evolving at a rapid pace, in such a scenario my advice for young leaders would be:

They should be self-motivated because it sets an example for their team members to follow. When a leader is self-motivated, it inspires the entire team to achieve their goals and accomplish new heights. 

Confidence and self-esteem do play a vital role in the making of an excellent leader. These are the qualities that convince your team members to believe in you and your vision for the company.

A leader must be capable of acting strategically and he must always be prepared to adjust his game-plan to capture emerging opportunities and cope with unexpected challenges. 

Networking is an important trait; leaders should remain resourceful to sustain in the competitive business environment.  

How important is the mutual trust between the company and the top leaders?

Trust is imperative for any company or organization, be it small or large, to thrive. It is the leader/CXO who is responsible for building a great team, bringing transformation in the organization for its betterment. The trust between both the parties is indispensable to achieve a successful performance.

How much time does it take for a person to get into the groove to become the next leader?

It varies from person to person; some people have inbuilt leadership qualities in them while some acquire the qualities with due time and experience. Many organizations now opt for executive coaching which provides an opportunity for senior executives and mid-level managers to develop their skills to become the next leader. 

Executive coaching helps one to evolve, to engage in the organization’s vision and mission, developing solutions for the team’s problem and lead a team.

What should the future leaders look like?  

Future leaders should be far-sighted, innovation focused and agile.
