'Sultan' Wins Hearts At Box Office, Crosses Rs 320 Crore In 10 Days

Director Ali Abbas Zafar's sports drama is already Salman's second biggest hit ever, having left 'Kick' behind

The latest Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma flick in the cinema halls is still riding upon a strong wave. Controversies haven't stopped the 'Sultan' of Bollywood from becoming one of the most bankable stars of Bollywood. Salman's fans have long been obsessed with his body building for the role of an aging wrestler.

It has earned Rs 320 crore and still doing well. The net profit of the 'Eid blockbuster' has touched Rs 236.59 crore at Box Office and the international collections are yet to be counted in. Not only this, Bollywood's Bhai has created another record with Sultan's success with this film being his 10th to cross the Rs 100 crore mark.

Director Ali Abbas Zafar's sports drama has shown outstanding performance in its opening week. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted that the film is already Salman's second biggest hit ever, having left Kick behind. He is immensely popular because he wears his heart on his sleeve, he behaves like a brat but he does all this good work with Being Human for the public eye.

As Sultan crossed Bajrangi Bhaijaan's box office collection, in the meanwhile DNA reported that a top TV channel has offered the actor Rs 1,000 crore deal for the satellite rights of his next 10 releases and appearances on the channel.

Even after its opening, it enjoyed a five-day weekend charm and reported tremendous response across the country. Very swiftly it minted around Rs 180 crores. That includes Rs 36.54 crores of Wednesday, Rs 37.32 crores of Thursday, Rs 31.67 crores of Friday, Rs 36.62 crores of Saturday and Rs 38.21 crores of Sunday.

By the end of its first weekend, the movie had surpassed the lifetime domestic total of many previous biggies like SRK's Chennai Express (Rs 227.16 crores). Though the YRF's venture witnessed a drop in the weekdays, of the second week but completed a business of Rs 48.80 crores. This includes Rs 15.54 crores of Monday, Rs 12.92 crores of Tuesday, Rs 10.82 crores of Wednesday and Rs 9.52 crores of Thursday. After its 9th day, total domestic collection of Sultan was recorded as Rs 229.16 crores.

Khan's fans and followers have crazily promoted the film and word of mouth has done wonders for the film's collections. He has also won praise for taking on such a difficult role where his weight fluctuates wildly. Salman's hard work has literally paid off. Overall this YRF venture has set a very high benchmark for the films to come and it would be interesting to see if another Salman's film breaks this record.
