Padmaja Ruparel, President, Indian Angel Network, feels that the Indian government has to take note of the high-risk investment that angel investors make in funding startups and entrepreneurs and an angel investor-friendly policy has to be created.

Talking to BW|Businessworld on budget expectations of the angel investor community from the first-ever budget of the Modi government, Ruparel pointed out that While Narendra Modi had a good majority in Parliament, he should use this to push through development and innovative agenda.

Pointing out that angel investment comes from post tax funds and by its very nature is a high-risk investment, much more than regular corporates, government should take care to avoid double taxation and formulate an angel investment friendly policy.

Also, attempts should be made to help young entrepreneurs and and set up a STPI like body for them.

Harping on the need to create domestic funding for entrepreneurs, Ruparel said, government should create conditions that lead to growth of domestic funds.
