In the past few years politicians have misled us by claiming ‘I am the only one who can lead India’. These pseudo-leaders are actually telling Indians, we are Impotent

Now that the elections are over, I am not bound by my moral code to influence public mindset with my insights. It’s time to write about how we get fooled by politicians, who project themselves as great leaders, but are not real leaders.
In the past few years politicians, be they Mamata Banerjee, Mayawati, Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kerjriwal, Chandrababu Naidu or others, have misled us by claiming, “I am the only one who can lead India”. That’s an insult to 1.3 billion Indians. These pseudo-leaders are actually telling us, we are impotent and only they can lead India.
I tell stories of Real Heroes (Ordinary People leading Extraordinary Change in our country/world) in my Karma-Kurry book series (a chance meeting with Dashrath Manjhi – the Mountain-Man, inspired my journey of curating, discovering and mainstreaming Real Heroes through the Karmaveer Awards and Karma-Kurry books). After meeting many Real Heroes, who are changing our country/world every day, I realised that who the President of the US or PM of India is, does not really matter. Most are Pseudo Leaders who talk more and act less. Meanwhile, there are unsung and uncommon Real Heroes, whose actions speak louder than words or speeches.
I share lessons on real leadership for all of us to learn. Here are the ten fulfilments of real leaders:
l Leaders are born: (Haha, check RaGa). There are no born leaders nor do titles make one a Real Leader. Real Leadership is a choice to learn Real Leadership mindsets/skillsets.
l Leaders are perfect: (Check Trump. Eh!). Perfection is the biggest lie of the world. Nothing/Nobody can be perfect. Continuous Improvement is the truth. Real Leaders know this and keep learning for Continuous Improvement.
l Feedback is the multivitamin of Real Leaders, who understand their vulnerability as mere mortals. They seek feedback from associates, family and friends, for Continuous Improvement. They do not surround themselves with yes men and sycophants. They seek out people who talk straight and give a candid feedback.
l Leadership is not arrogance: Arrogance and a god-syndrome derail many. Remember, arrogance makes one stupid. Real Leaders know Humility is Power. Humility keeps one grounded. Real Leaders keep an open mind and make righteous choices.
l Real Leaders do right and own responsibility when wrong is done. They do not cover up or make Wrongs look Right.
l Leaders know everything: (Check Sadhguru! He knows everything – rocket science, astrophysics, quantum science – Hmmm!). Real Leaders know they know little and keep an open mind to listening/learning more.
l Leaders have Followers: Na! Real Leaders create more Real Leaders. If you are not creating leaders and think you are the only one, you are not a Real Leader.
l Leaders treat everyone as a leader and affirm everyone’s worth and potential. Real Leaders know they are just one amongst many and understand their vulnerability/mortality.
l Real Leaders are humane/compassionate and do right for people and the planet. They do not destroy the environment/nature for personal benefit and profitability of cronies.
l Real Leaders acknowledge their weaknesses and work towards Daily-Personal-Transformation. Remember, Character is Integrity! Integrity is what we are doing, when nobody is watching.
