Peggy Whitson

Peggy Whitson is the First woman to command the International Space Station (ISS). She began her NASA career in the 1980s. She served as deputy division chief of the Medical Sciences Division at NASA’s Johnson Space Centre in Houston and co-chair of the U.S.-Russian Mission Science Working Group before being selected as an astronaut in 1996. Whitson completed a six month tour of duty aboard the International Space Station as the ISS Commander for Expedition 16 in April 2008.
