'There Is Scope For Vernacular BPO In Rural Areas'

The BPO industry in India is witnessing a shift. It is gradually moving to smaller towns and semi-urban and rural areas. At the 10th annual BPO Strategy Summit organised by the National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom), the representative body of the Indian IT and BPO industry, in Bangalore last week, Nasscom President Som Mittal said the move to these areas was mainly due to lack of sufficient infrastructure in the metros. More than a handful of companies such as Satyam, Wipro, Tata Group, have entered this sphere either as a measure to cut costs or as a CSR initiative, sometimes to achieve both.
