IUM, Monaco Goes Green
IUM launches a new Master’s program in Sustainable Development
The International University of Monaco, a part of INSEEC group, has launched a new Master's program in sustainable development, that concentrates on the challenges for business and society, to design and manage financially viable projects related to environment and their responsibility towards society. The one-year program commencing in the fall semester (September, 2012); with approximately 20 seats invite students who are interested to provide a "sustainability" perspective to an organization. IUM has also joined other institutions of higher education during the United Nations Conference. The program is currently accepting applications through the end of the June.
The course offers modules in eco-consumerism and green marketing, micro-finance and nongovernmental organizations, socially responsible investment, sustainable development law, energy, European Union climate, energy package and how it's applied through the construction of "zero energy" buildings, the work of Monaco-based NGOs in the biodiversity sector, socially responsible investment funds developed by banks and the launch of an electric car racing championship. The likes of renowned international guests Peter Raven who won the "Biodiversity Award" in 2010 will be invited to the campus to give lectures.
Program graduates will be able to apply for such jobs as project manager in international organizations or in NGOs, social responsibility executives in the private sector, consultants for companies specialized in the environment and green technology, and many more. IUM has joined other institutions of higher education in their commitment to sustainable practices during the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development.
"The launch of the master's in sustainable development at the IUM acts as a driving force in the creation of new sustainable business models," Says Antonella Patras, Dean of IUM. "Today, the national and international environmental legal framework is such that almost all societies and institutions are required to think and act sustainably and hire employees accordingly" Says the Program Head, Damyana Bakardzhieva.
With 60 nationalities represented in the student body and faculty, IUM is the only university which provides a business education taught entirely in English on the French Riviera. In April 2010, IUM became part of the INSEEC Group. The INSEEC Group offers programs in the Management, Communication and Health sectors, awarding both Bachelor's and Master's degrees.
