Dr. Sunder Ramaswamy received his Ph.D. in Economics from Purdue, M.A. from Delhi School of Economics, and B.A. (Honours) in Economics from St. Stephen's College. He currently is a Distinguished College Professor of Economics at Middlebury College, U.S.A (on leave). From 2009 –2015, he was the President and Frederick C. Dirks Professor of Economics at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (MIIS) in Monterey, California.
He has been a faculty and administrator at Middlebury since 1990 and has had sabbaticals at the World Bank, Vanderbilt, Purdue, IFMR and MSE (including 2 stints as Director). He has consulted for UNCTAD, UNIDO, and UNU and his academic work has been supported by grants from Ford, SW Davis, Kellogg Foundation and USAID. He has co-authored and edited 4 books, written scores of scholarly articles, and delivered over 150 invited lectures on globalisation, economic development, Indian economic reforms, and economics literacy.
