World Population Day 2019: Things One Should Know

According to the United Nations latest data, the approximate population of India is about one billion and is growing at an alarming rate and is chasing the most populous country, China.

World Population Day

World Population Day is observed every year on 11 July. The day seeks to focus attention on the urgency and the importance of population issues. It was established in 1989, by the Governing Council of the United Nations Development Programme. 

According to the United Nations latest data, the approximate population of India is about one billion and is growing at an alarming rate and is chasing the most populous country, China.

International Conference

This year the United Nations calls for global attention to the unfinished business of the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development in Cairo. The landmark conference which held twenty-five years back has 179 governments that focused on issues such as reproductive health and gender equality.

Population of India

According to the latest data of the United Nations, the approximate population of India at present is about 1 billion while China is about 1.41 billion. India is in a race to beat China in the upcoming years and will become the most populous state in the world. Its population is increasing at a growth rate of 1.19 per cent and will touch 1.53 billion by the end of 2030.  

Celebration

World Population Day is celebrated worldwide. It is an international event in which various countries, organizations participate to draw attention to major issues related to population in the world. The various activities such as seminars, discussions, educational sessions, workshops, debates are organized to raise awareness. TV channels and radio broadcasts various programs related to family planning.

Family Planning

Family Planning is essential for the well-being of a mother in a family. It allows the couple to determine the required spacing in the birth of their children. It helps to reduce the infant mortality rate as it helps them to avoid high-risk births. It also lightens the burden and responsibility of the father in supporting his family and enables them to give basic needs to their children.
