The task of the leader is to get his people from where they are to where they have not been. — Henry Kissinger

We are slowly approaching the D-Day — May 23 — when the results of the ongoing general elections will be announced.

Chances are that the Narendra Modi government will come back to power. Chances are that it may fall short of the required number, and an alternate combination lays claim to power at the Centre. Whatever the eventuality, exciting times await us.

So, how did the Narendra Modi government fare in its five-year-long period? What were the hits and misses of the government? How does the report card read, when compared to its predecessor, the Manmohan Singh government?

Industry leader Sumant Sinha offers his perspective in Last Word wherein he talks about the economy, and the times ahead.

For the cover story, we have something exciting lined up for you, dear reader. We have done two surveys — Corporate India survey and the Nation survey. We ask the respondents to rank what they think is their Dream Team in this India of 2019.

For this, we have mapped the post-liberalisation governments, and factored the ministries that have an economic imprint.

We put the Corporate Survey results on the Cover and the findings are surprising, to say the least. While some are usual suspects that you may think on any given day, some names set you thinking. Some are perceived to be tainted, yet they figure on the list. We have not fiddled with the findings. We present them as we found out in the survey. To get an independent view, we ask two outsiders, both accomplished commentators, to validate the findings. They may agree, disagree; they may go with the names, they may trash the choice.

We present the findings as they are, before you, dear reader, and it’s for you to make your own choices and draw your conclusions.

We also do a report card of the Modi Cabinet as it demits office. Some are high achievers; some struggle to match up to the high standards.

In this issue of BW Businessworld, we present an exclusive interview with the Defence Secretary (Production).

In corporate stories, we present the Gen Next leaders of the realty world who have a challenging time ahead considering the headwinds that the sector faces.

Continuing with our series on how the Opposition would tackle the policy issues if it were come to power, we look at what the Congress will do for jobs — if it’s voted to power.
