The Uttar Pradesh Police, on Wednesday, detained Congress General Secretary and leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for a second time in less than a month, when she was trying to visit Agra to meet the family of a man who died in police custody.

Vadra also took to her official Twitter handle, she wrote (roughly translated into English), “Arun Valmiki died in police custody. His family is seeking justice. I want to visit family. What is the UP government afraid of? Why am I being stopped? Today is Lord Valmiki Jayanti, PM spoke big on Mahatma Buddha but is attacking his messages.”

Vadra is being taken to Lucknow's Police Lines after her car was stopped at the first toll plaza on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway.

The official Twitter handle of the Indian National Congress wrote (roughly translated into English), “Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Detention of Ji is condemnable, it is a violation of constitutional rights. But the BJP government will not be able to break our spirits by taking us into custody, we will continue our fight for justice against injustice.”

Earlier in the day, Vadra slammed UP police and said, Where is the justice to beat someone to death in police custody?

“The incident of Arun Valmiki's death in Agra Police Custody is condemnable. On the day of Lord Valmiki Jayanti, the UP government has acted against his messages. High-level investigation and action should be taken against the policemen and the victim's family should get compensation,” she said.

She also underlined her constitutional right to free movement in India. She made it clear that she will visit the family as soon as she is released.

Meanwhile, UP Police said that they stopped her according to an order circulated by the Agra District Magistrate, which cited law and order issues to stop political leaders from visiting the spot.

UP Police, on Wednesday, said Arun Valmiki, who was accused of stealing the cash, on Saturday, night from the police station's evidence warehouse, where he worked as a cleaner, died after he fell sick during interrogation

Police handed over his body to the family after the post-mortem.

Meanwhile, Vadra was also detained by UP police earlier this month when she was visiting the families of farmers killed in Lakhimpur violence.
