UGC To Organise MOOCs Workshop
MOOCs is one of the major concerned areas where the government has taken a step ahead to educate students with even vast subjects
Education with technology is considered as most promising development in education. With technology globalization, the concept of learning and teaching has undergone enormous changes. In this regards, Ministry of Human Resources Development has taken many initiatives to provide an digitally advanced education in India.
MOOCs is one of the major concerned areas where the government has taken a step ahead to educate students with even vast subjects.
The government has linked MOOCs with a new portal named ‘Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds’, in short, SWAYAM, which is said to present students with an opportunity to study anything from a list of 2000 courses out of which 200 are currently available for registration.
According to the Ministry of Human Resource and Development, it is a great approach in heading towards the development by going completely digital. In the coming years, MOOCs would be starting in India on a large scale.
Going completely digital, students would be able to receive the best, detailed and updated knowledge of various subjects online.
The University Grants Commission is also working in the progress for this very initiative and in light of this, UGC has arranged one day workshop on 10 May. Senior educationists from all over India would come who has been chosen by the committee.
The UGC along with the HRD Ministry has launched MOOC programme in India for higher secondary, bachelors and masters degrees. This will cover a wide range of subjects that may or may not be taught in the regular campus.
The Joint Secretary of UGC Dr Pankaja Mittal and Deputy Secretary Dr Disha Rajput are taking care of the project.
Dr Durgesh Tripathi from GGSIPU (Guru Govind Singh Indraprastha University) has been chosen for media, youth and society for the MOOCs event. Before this Dr Tripathi has worked with UGC, ICSSR, Science and Technology for their successful experimentation. Dr Tripathi said that MOOC will change the scenario of Learning and Teaching.
