After implementing new policy, Twitter will be able to collect personal information from you like the type of device you’re using, your IP address. Registered users will be sharing their email address, phone number, address book contacts, and a public profile. Moreover, it can now scan your Direct Messages in order to prevent its users from spam and their service.
“We use this information for things like keeping your account secure and showing you more relevant Tweets, people to follow, events, and ads”, said Twitter in its updated policy page.
Twitter will share more information from its Space section. It can now analyze data from Spaces to provide audio transcriptions, to review for potential violations of the Twitter Rules. Moreover, the changes have been made in ‘Twitter Blue’ (Currently available in Canada and Australia) as well. “For a monthly fee, subscribers receive access to exclusive features and premium customer support.” the blog noted.
Additionally, it recently updated the way videos autoplay on Twitter, including videos from third-party partners. “When you watch or interact with content from these partners, they may receive and process some data as described in their privacy policies.” it added.
Announcing the new policy, Twitter said, “In addition to the information you share with us, we use your Tweets, content you’ve read, Liked, or Retweeted, and other information to determine what topics you’re interested in, your age, the languages you speak, and other signals to show you more relevant content. We give you transparency into that information, and you can modify or correct it at any time.”
However, Users will have option to control their data via settings. “Users can limit the data we collect from you and how we use it, and to control things like account security, marketing preferences, apps that can access your account, and address book contacts you’ve uploaded to Twitter”, said Twitter.
In case you make a payment or send money using Twitter features or services, including through an intermediary, “we may receive information about your transaction such as when it was made or when a subscription is set to expire or auto-renew.” it added.
Revealing the type of data Twitter shared with its affiliates and Ad partners, it said, “Our ad partners and affiliates share information with us such as browser cookie IDs, mobile device IDs, hashed email addresses, demographic or interest data, and content viewed or actions taken on a website or app. Some of our ad partners, particularly our advertisers, also enable us to collect similar information directly from their website or app by integrating our advertising technology”.
