Top Five Grossers In Indian Cinema In 2017

The total revenue earned by Baahubali 2, by the end of May was above Rs 500 crore, which was a record breaking performance by Indian film Industry.

Year 2016 had been a rough ride for box office with a number of movies that failed to reach their target followed by 2017 releases like Begum Jaan, Noor, Meri Pyaari Bindu, Sarkar who's production cost was relatively high than the revenue they earned.

Some movies have got widespread recognition because of their work on global platform. These movies not only got acknowledgement from audience but also broke several box office records.

Here are the top 5 grossers of 2017:

1. Baahubali 2: The Conclusion

This historical fiction film directed by SS Rajamouli not only impressed the audience but also made a place in their hearts. Baahubali 2 had grossed Rs 152.6 crore on its first day of release in India from all four versions (Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi). The film earned Rs 695 crore in India by the end of the first week. It became the first Indian film to cross Rs 715.93 million in Middle East. As of 14 May 2017, the film had grossed Rs 1225 million in the United States.

2. Raees

Shahrukh Khan starrer Raees roared in the box office with worldwide gross collection of  Rs 305 crore. Before the movie released there were speculations regarding the film inspired by the life of criminal Abdul Latif. This led to controversies after which the film makers denied this and said that the Raees is purely based on fiction.

3. Badrinath Ki Dulhania

Badrinath Ki Dulhania was the second installment of a franchise that began with Humpty Sharma ki Dulhania. The romantic drama succeeded to be in the list of top grossing movies by pulling in Rs 71.77 crore in its first week and made its way to garner Rs 26.73 crore in its second week. This took the film's 21-day total collection to approximately Rs 109 crore.

4. Jolly LLB 2

This courtroom drama, starring Akshay Kumar, accumulated Rs 107 crore net at the Indian Box office. It opened to a collection of an estimation of Rs 72.98 crore in the first week which was followed by estimated collections of Rs 23.77 crore. In the second week, on international platform, the film earned a little under Rs.332 million overseas, taking the collection to an estimation of Rs 180 crore.

5. Kaabil

Kaabil, the movie featuring a love story between two blind people starring Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam, managed to rake in Rs 196.74 crore gross worldwide, including a gross domestic collection of Rs 168.08 crore at the box office, in its first two weeks.
