Twitter’s Premium Video Content Partnerships


Twitter has signed premium live and in-stream video content deals across sports, news and entertainment in the Asia-Pacific. With over 35 collaborations in the APAC, Twitter is looking to bring hundreds of hours of new video content and live original programming, live games and events to the platform. The announcement includes extensions of existing global live deals and brings new always-on premium video content on Twitter to advertisers in the Asia Pacific. 

“Live is at the core of Twitter. In Q2, we streamed over 1,200 hours of live premium content globally from leading brands across sports, news, and entertainment. The Asia Pacific is the growth engine of Twitter and we could not be prouder to extend our success with both live streaming and in-stream premium video content in the region,” says Twitter’s Global Vice-President of Revenue & Operations, Matthew Derella.

“Digital video consumption is growing rapidly in the Asia Pacific and is estimated to grow to over a billion by 2020. Introducing over 35 live and in-stream video sponsorship deals to APAC advertisers will strengthen the success of our only-on-Twitter experience in the region and globally,” says Maya Hari, Managing Director of Asia Pacific, Twitter.

In sports, Twitter has signed on ICC, Fox Sports Asia, Premier Futsal League and NBA. In entertainment, content from Filmfare Awards, Red Chillies Entertainment, Rolling Stone India and Yash Raj Films will be on Twitter India.


Autoplay Videos


Instagram has recently tweaked its audio setting on videos on the platform. While the default setting for autoplay videos is still mute when a user opens the app, if the audio is switched on for one post, the audio will remain on for the other video posts on the feed as well. Earlier, users had to switch on the audio for each post. Under the new setting, the videos go back to mute once the user closes the app, or switches off the audio on one post. This latest update comes as welcome news for advertisers, as it means more of their ads will play with sound on.

Pinterest now counts more than 200 million monthly active users, and it has more than 100 billion pins. In a blog post, Evan Sharp, Co-founder of Pinterest, says the image-pinning platform has “grown nearly 40 per cent since last year.”

It hit 100 million monthly users by September 2015, and then eclipsed 150 million in October 2016.
