Currently in the nascent stages of adoption, tablet PC market in India is expected to show robust growth in the next five years with revenues from tablet PC sales reaching $6.5 billion by 2016. 
 
A research report by Knowledgefaber, a fact-based consulting and research firm, has revealed that the Tablet PC market has emerged as one of the most dynamic segment in consumer electronics in recent times.

Indian market represents a distinct picture as compared to world-wide scenario. Apple’s iPad has gained limited success in price-sensitive Indian market while adoption patterns in terms of OS (operating system) and screen-size for tablet PCs have also been different from world-wide trends.
 
Further, while thr 9-inch category continues to be the stronghold of established vendors, the 7-inch category is witnessing plenty of new entrants in the Indian tablet PC market. Domestic players are cluttering the 7 inch tablet PC category with sub Rs 10,000 tablets in an attempt to offer feature
rich low – cost tablets to price sensitive Indian consumers and to avoid direct competition with established vendors.
 
  • Tablet PC market in the 9 inch category continues to be dominated by Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab with very few domestic players offerings products in this category
     
  • 5-inch tablet PC remains a niche category with handful of vendors offering high-end products like hybrid tablets/Phablets, offering dual benefit of smartphone and tablets. Average selling price in this category remains higher than 7 inches.
