These techniques can help improve your vocabulary for the CAT exam:

1. Read and Read

This will help you increase your vocabulary along with general knowledge and confidence. Try giving one or two hours daily reading to improve your stock.

2. Use a journal

Always note down all the new words you learn everyday; so you can refer back to it whenever required. Maintaining a record will help you build your word stock. AS your vocabulary improves, it will build your confidence and motivation to learn new words on a regular basis, especially when you see the number of words you’ve already learned.

3. Techniques to learn Diversify your mode of learning

Reading the same kind of material will take you nowhere. If you read the same type of material daily, it will keep your vocabulary to a stagnant point. Also, you won’t expose yourself to an extensive vocabulary set which may lead you to a detrimental realization when you sit down for a mock CAT attempt.

4. Give importance to Root Words

Various memory techniques like association, imagery can greatly help your learning for better grasp and quicker recall. For the CAT exam vocabulary, using various tricks and techniques will make improving your CAT vocabulary easy.

For instance, consider the word root ‘phon’ which means ‘sound’. Now if you come across words such as: euphony (pleasing sound), cacophony (harsh sound) etc., you can guess their meanings

5. Dictionary is important

Use the dictionary to always find out new words yourself. Also, find meaning of the words you come across for the first time. Referring to a dictionary while reading or writing will not only help to improve your reading and writing, but vocabulary too.
