Team Modi Is In, Jaitley Heads Finance And Defence

Finally the Modi Cabinet list is out. As expected Rajnath Singh has been made the Home Minister while Arun Jaitley will head both India's finance and defence ministry with Sushma Swaraj becoming the first woman External Affairs Minister, in yet another first for the 62-year-old BJP leader, a government statement said on Tuesday (27 May).

Nitin Gadkari has been given charge of Surface Transport, Highways and Ports.

M Venkaiah Naidu has got Urban Development; Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation; Parliamentary Affairs ministries while Gopinath Munde bagged Rural Development; Panchayati Raj; Drinking Water and Sanitation. Agriculture has gone to Rasha Mohan Singh.

In the energy sector, Piyush Goyal is minister of state for power (Independent Charge); Coal (Independent Charge); New and Renewable Energy (Independent Charge) while Dharmendra Pradhan minister is ministr of state with independent charge for Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda got the Railways Ministry while Smriti Irani, who has been surprisingly inducted with a Cabinet rank, is the new HRD Minister.

Ashok Gajapati Raju, who belongs to BJP's ally TDP, has got the Civil Aviation portfolio and Akali Dal's Harsimrat Kaur Badal is the minisater fot Food Processing Industries. Shiv Sena's Anant Geete is tipped to get Heavy Industry Ministry.

BJP's Ravi Shankar Prasad got Law and Telecom while his party colleague Prakash Javadekar is be the new Minister of State with Independent charge in Information and Broadcasting and Environment and MoS for Parliamentary Affairs.

Ananth Kumar is in charge of Chemicals and Fertilizers.
