Sugar surges on sustained demand

Mumbai, June 11 (PTI) Sugar prices of both varieties surged at the Vashi wholesale market today following sustained demand from stockists and bulk consumers.

Small sugar (S-30) climbed by Rs 30/25 per quintal to Rs 3,200/3,300 from last Saturday's closing level of Rs 3,170/3,275.

Medium sugar (M-30) also rose by Rs 20/10 per quintal to Rs 3,260/3,422 as against Rs 3,240/3,412 previously.

Following are today's closing rates for sugar (per quintal) with the previous rates given in brackets:

Small sugar (S-30) quality: Rs 3,200/3,300 (Rs 3,170/3,275).

Medium sugar (M-30) quality: Rs 3,260/3,422 (Rs 3,240/3,412). PTI BPD MKJ
