Agra's footwear industry will hold a major exhibition of shoes and leather products with strong Indian and foreign participation.

The Agra Footwear Manufacturers and Exporters Chamber (AFMEC) is presenting its "Meet at Agra 2016" - 10th edition of Leather, Footwear Component and Technology Fair - from November 12 to 14 at BSNL Ground, Mall Road, Agra.

The fair is approved by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) and supported by industry bodies such as CLE, IFCOMA, AISHTMA, IFLMEA and ISF.

"Meet at Agra" is not just a product exhibition but a platform to strengthen supply chain and build new business relations, the organisers said.

It also offers opportunities for capacity building, technology upgradation and knowledge acquisition for people in the industry.

The footwear share in the overall exports of Agra's leather industry is 46 per cent. Agra is the biggest footwear manufacturing hub in the country.

The city has a share of 28 per cent in the total exports from the country. "Meet at Agra" will play an important role in achieving the government's target of $27 billion annual exports compared $14 billion at present, the organisers said.

The 9th edition of the fair was a big success. The 10th edition promises to be bigger and better this year.

The event covers more than 6,000 square metres of area - an increase of 300 square metres compared to last year.

There will be 266 stalls inside the hall and 20 non-footwear stalls outside.

About 200 companies are expected to participate in the fair from across the country and abroad.

Participation from France, Germany, Italy, UK, Turkey, Taiwan, China and Pakistan is already confirmed, the organisers said.

The fair will display finished leather, wide range of footwear components, accessories, chemicals, shoe finishes, latest technology and footwear machinery.

Taiwan Footwear Association is again participating with 7 companies.

The event is expected to have a footfall of 8,000 business visitors. Top industry executives and senior government officials will attend the fair.

"There has been an overwhelming response for participation in the fair even though there is drop in exports due to recession in Europe. We have already booked 100 per cent space," said Puran Dawar, president of AFMEC.
