The Opposition may be having a tough time critiquing Finance Minister Arun Jaitley’s third Union Budget, which focuses on a distressed rural economy, but it has drawn flak from the RSS’s labour union, the Bharatiya Mazdoor Union.

“On most counts on which the labour unions and class had major expectations from the Modi government, they have been disappointed,” said Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) in a statement.

“Farmers had expected a loan waiver scheme in the Budget, as they had to face successive droughts. Similarly, labour unions expected that IT limit would be raised to Rs 5 lakh. On both these counts, the Modi government’s budget has disappointed,” said the BMS in a statement, adding that the “unorganized sector had been disappointed the most”.

The BMS expressed “surprise” at the 100 per cent proposal in the food processing industry. “It seems that the farm sector would now entirely have to be dependent on foreign powers,” the BMS feared.
