While PM may have announced the government’s intention to move forward with unlocking the country and ruled out any possibility of a fresh lockdown, majority of Indians do not seem to be in agreement. As per a latest survey by Public app, over 65 percent people want the lockdown to be imposed again due to an alarming rise in COVID 19 cases. The survey was conducted in more than 250 cities of India and around four lakh participated in it.

In the survey, 69 percent respondents from Delhi, 66 percent from Bihar, 78 percent from Chhattisgarh, 73 percent in Haryana, 67 percent in Jharkhand, 63 percent in Madhya Pradesh, 65 percent in Rajasthan and 61 percent in Uttar Pradesh have voted in favour of another lockdown.

A similar survey conducted in the last week of May had revealed that around 60 percent people in India were not happy with relaxations that the government had announced in the fourth phase of the nationwide lockdown. The survey also showed that with the increasing case tally of infections daily, 11 percent people estimated that the number of active COVID-19 cases would be more than 5 lakhs by June end.

Meanwhile, Central, State and District administration and politicians have been using technology effectively to communicate with citizens amid the pandemic outbreak and dispel rumours.  The Public app itself has over 1000 verified accounts of government departments and politicians using the app to combat fake news and rumours that are being spread around COVID19 and to hear grievances of people to ensure everyone’s safety
