The Congress has slammed the interim Budget presented by Piyush Goyal.

While welcoming the farm sop, former Union Finance Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram wondered what would happen to agricultural tenants and landless labourers. He also raised the issue of urban poor.

The universal minimum income that we have proposed covers the entire gamut of poor, said Chidambaram.

The former minister also said that the open-defecation-free villages claim was just not true, as anecdotal evidence showed.

Chidambaram also said there was no mention of education and jobs in the Vision 2030 unveiled by Goyal.

“There’ve been no jobs. Unemployment is on its all-time high. There is no mention of education,” said Chidambaram.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the other hand said it was an election budget and added that budgetary allocations could have some election impact.
