OnePlus 8 Pro X-Ray Camera

A strange feature, bordering creepy, is part of the newly launched OnePlus 8 Camera if reports doing the round on the Internet are to be believed. We are still waiting for an official statement from OnePlus on this.

But it all started with a tweet from Ben Geskin that went viral revealing the unknown yet interesting X-ray feature of OnePlus 8.

It is said that the new OnePlus 8 comes with a 5MP color filter camera through which one could see through certain kinds of plastics.

To access this feature, you just need to switch the Photochrom mode in the camera app and aim the smartphone towards some electronic devices. Yes, the photochrom feature will allow you to see through some of the layers and you can actually view the circuit boards and elements of the device, apparently.

Some of the reports also suggest that it doesn’t work on the devices which are equipped with IR Shields. This includes devices such as Television remote and the setup box.

How Exactly It Works?

So, the possible reason for this could be the sensitivity of OnePlus 8 Camera for Infrared lights. We can’t see the Infrared rays through naked eyes but normal smartphone camera can. To test this with your smartphone, try to view the top of the TV/Set-top box remote from the camera. You just need to press any of button on remote and you will see reddish-pink light from the IR bulb of your remote.

Can It See Through Clothes?

Well, not really but we believe that there must be certain types of fabrics that it may see through. To collect more information on this, we start researching for it on the internet and found a report that claims it can capture the text from a paper that is put behind the shirt.

However, OnePlus 8 neither promoted nor described the "see through" capabilities ever.

This feature came out to as experiment and we are still waiting for an official statement from OnePlus.

We will be posting a thorough camera comparison between 2020 flagships as soon as the lockdown ends and we can get our hands on the Retail Device.
