Social travel really took off with Airbnb, Couchsurfing, Wimdu, Crashpadder and Gogobot. And, it continues to go places with each day bringing a new social travel startup. Is there room for innovation? Clearly so, going by the latest launch — Pintrips has just publicly debuted its online pinboard for tracking flights and prices through which you can pin, track and share airfares. You bookmark your flights from travel sites and watch them appear as a personal dashboard. You can do a collaborative dashboard with friends and family. Pintrips founder Stephen Gotlieb used the experience of his personal booking nightmares — he used to try and book family trips and found that by the time his family members responded to suggestions, the prices of flights would have changed or seats sold out — to come up with this convenient solution.

On the social travel app front too, there’s constant activity. Even as Trippy and Bump score high with social travellers, the current buzz is around Chicago startup Business Traveler Social. It has just launched a new app that helps business travellers connect with other professionals while on trips. It allows users to flag the city they are in and indicate they are interested in networking and connect with like-minded travellers.

Low On ‘Likes’
A day after its launch on 16 April, 44 per cent of Android users who reviewed the Facebook Home app on Google Play gave it just a one-star rating. The app, which has seen some 500,000 downloads, has received an average rating of 2.3.

Expiry Date
If you post a link on Twitter, the average shelf life is 2.8 hours; on Facebook it is 3.2 hours; and on ‘direct’ sources such as email or IM clients, it is 3.4 hours. On YouTube, it’s a bit more sticky — at an average of 7 hours.
