Oath Taking Ceremony Of Newly Appointed Members Of Consumer Commission

In the State and District Commissions, the 26 vacant seats are filled in one go, 3 members have been appointed under the State Commission and 23 have been appointed under District Commissions

The oath taking ceremony for newly appointed members of State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission and President, Members of District Commissions was held at Department of Food Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Government of NCT of Delhi, on Wednesday. 

The oath of office and secrecy was administered by Kuldeep Singh, Director (Consumer Affairs) under the

chairpersonship of Padmini Singla (IAS), Secretary cum Commissioner, Food Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Delhi, the official statement read. 

Meanwhile, Delhi is one of the few states and Union Territories (UTs) that have made the appointments under the new Consumer Protection Act, 2019. 

Apart from the oath-taking, members were also sensitised about the importance of effective implementation of the Act in light of changing ecosystem of consumer markets.

Padmini Singla, Secretary, Commissioner of Food Supplies and Consumer Affairs while congratulating all the selected members, said that the Consumer is king, and we, as a team, must work to redress their grievances. New Act has many provisions to effectively dispense justice to them. The Department is always striving to provide administrative support to the Commission in the effective discharge of their duties. A hybrid hearing system would soon be available in the Consumer Commission to tackle limitations arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic. New Members also share their past experiences & commitment to protecting the interests of the consumers in Delhi.

The appointed presidents, members are from the Judiciary, Administration, and Advocates who have experience in consumer-related matters.
