A lot of discussions and dramas are doing round the corners over khichdi. The confusion, which started with Khichdi to be declared as national dish of India, went on with twitterati making trolls out out of the same.

Whatever the point is no one can ignore the importance of khichdi in our diet; it has certain nutritional values which make it a complete balanced diet.

So, taking some time out of the trolls, let's have a look at the nutritional values of khichdi:

1. Generally, khichdi is made up of rice and pulses. Sometimes, people also add vegetables to it. So, all in all it is a balanced diet, providing you with carbohydrates, proteins, vitamins and other dietary fibre.

2. Khichdi is not a heavy dish; in the sense it is neither loaded with spices nor soaked in oil. So, it is easy to digest and anyone, from babies to elderly people, can have it during anytime of the day.

3. A lot of people have allergy from gluten, and it becomes difficult for them to get a proper gluten free balanced diet. In such a situation, khichdi comes to the rescue as it is gluten free.

4. According to Ayurveda, eating khichdi detoxifies body and balances the three doshas – Vatta (body processes), Pitta (digestion problems), Kapha (immunity problems)
