The fear to go under the knife for nips and tucks with equally strong desire to look young is nudging people to opt for fat removal and body shaping procedures which are far from obtrusive. No wonder, the beauty and wellness sector has witnessed a surge in demand for treatments involving painless removal of fat, thanks to widespread development and adoption of non-invasive and minimal invasive fat incineration technology in India. Not only are these procedures non-invasive, but most require no preparation, no downtime, and cause little to no pain. The side effects are also minimal and often none at all.

The body contouring market, including non-invasive and minimally invasive fat reduction treatments, is expected to achieve a compound annual growth rate of 7.9% between 2015 and 2022.

With rapid advances in technology, the number of people going for non-invasive procedures is only expected to rise in the coming years.

Some of the most effective and popular non-invasive procedures are Coolsculpting®, HIFU, Thermage, etc. Coolsculpting® is a revolutionary fat-freezing procedure; and Thermage and HIFU treatments focus on skin lifting and face slimming with lifting, respectively.

Cool Sculpting is an FDA-approved non-surgical fat reduction treatment which targets and eliminates fat cells by literally freezing them without any damage to other cells or tissues. VLCC was one of the brands in bringing this technology to India, and is currently a formidable player in the country. This treatment is majorly used for site-specific fat correction in areas like outer and inner thighs, abdomen, under the chin, upper and lower back, flanks, etc. Visible results of Coolsculpting® start showing within two weeks of the procedure. In this treatment, there is no anesthesia, surgery and downtime. This technology has been widely accepted not just in India, but around the globe.

Apart from Coolsculpting®, there are several other face and body contouring procedures which are based on radiofrequency and ultrasound technology. These procedures are again minimal to non-invasive and are garnering demand from people in the age group of 30-60. Sometimes, these are also called office time treatments because one needs a lunch break to get a procedure or a sitting done before joining work in time, thanks to no downtime.

Thermage is a non-invasive radiofrequency therapy that is used as a nonsurgical option for lifting of facial skin and that of various body parts to improve the look and feel of ageing skin on many areas of the body. It is a good treatment option for facial skin lifting, especially for people having sagging skin with prominent laugh lines and fine wrinkles. It is also beneficial for people having thin, loose skin on the neck and under eye area. High-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) - Ultherapy is another revolution in non-surgical facial rejuvenation. It is a therapeutic technique that uses non-ionizing ultrasonic waves to heat tissue. It is a relatively new, non-surgical alternative to facelift and can also be used for other body parts. HIFU Face Lifting Machine uses ultrasound technology to penetrate deeply into the skin which encourages collagen growth and tightening of the tissue on face, neck and brows, creating a visible lift. It has probes which work at various levels of depth resulting in bulky faces looking sleeker due to tightening of facial muscle layer, facial fat reduction and tightening of facial skin. The HIFU - Ultherapy device is also beneficial in giving moderately saggy arms a lifted and tighter look, buttock toning and lifting, thigh lifting and love handles correction along with abdominal fat reduction and skin toning.

In addition to the non-invasive treatments, there has been a lot of focus on preventive healthcare and holistic wellness in India. There is a growing consciousness about health related issues among people, in effect lending a boost to preventive healthcare in recent times.

A pretty new technology that is taking the market by storm today is DNA wellness. Under this holistic treatment, series of tests are performed to help the individual understand his/ her body's tendency towards weight, lifestyle disorders and proclivity for diseases. These DNA tests gives a solid backdrop to health experts chart out a complete diet and workout regimen for individuals, duly aligned with their respected DNA analysis.

DNA wellness marks a paradigm shift in the arena of weight management, where conventional programs worldwide have so far focused on indicators such as BMI, BMR and BCA, etc. This program goes a step beyond by factoring the impact of one’s unique DNA in the weight loss process, for prescribing the most effective diet and exercise regime.
