New Portfolios: Puri Gets Petroleum, Scindia Gets Civil Aviation; Shah Takes Additional Charge Of 'Ministry of Cooperation'

Post the swearing-in of 43 ministers, earlier this evening, the portfolios have been announced.

Within a short time after the completion of the swearing-in ceremony, the portfolio allocations were announced.

As per the news coming in, the Union Home minister Amit Shah will also head the newly formed Ministry of Cooperation while Ashwini Vaishnav will be the new Union Minister for Railways, Electronics and Information Technology and Communication, the later half was under Ravi Shankar Prasad who had resigned hours before the official oath-taking ceremony earlier on July 7.

Jyotiraditya Scindia, now a central minister in the BJP (former minister in the UPA Government when he was in the Congress) has been appointed as the new Civil Aviation Minister while Piyush Goyal is the new textile minister. He was the Railways minister earlier. 

BJP leader Jyotiraditya Scindia was appointed as the Minister for Civil Aviation, whereas, Piyush Goyal would be heading the new Textile Ministry, in addition to the existing charge of Ministry of Consumer Affairs.

Hardeep Singh Puri, the incumbent Minister for Civil Aviation and Urban Planning, will now be the new Petroleum Minister, replacing the incumbent Dharmendra Pradhan.

Mansukh Mandaviya will take charge of the ministries of Health and Chemical & Fertilisers which have been clubbed. The new combined ministry would be headed by Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. He was earlier heading the Ministry of Chemical & Fertilisers. 

Former Petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan would now be taking charge of the Ministry of Education and Skills Development. Earlier in the day incumbent Education Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank had submitted his resignation.

The Science & Technology Ministry, which was earlier held by Dr Harsh Vardhan, who resigned as the minister earlier in the day, would now be monitored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly.

Eminent lawyer and BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi is now the new Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture. Pashupati Paras will now be heading to the Ministry for Food Processing which was earlier looked after by his brother and late LJP founder Ram Vilas Paswan.

Earlier at the helm of the Finance ministry as the State minister, Anurag Thakur,  a prominent MP from Himachal Pradesh, who was elevated to a Cabinet rank minister earlier in the evening, will take charge of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry and the Sports Ministry. He is replacing veteran BJL leader and former I&B minister Prakash Javdekar who had also resigned earlier in the day. 

Senior BJP leader Bhupender Yadav has been appointed as the new Labour Minister, replacing Santosh Gangwar while Giriraj Singh will now take charge of the Ministry of Rural Development.
