New Governors Appointed For Nagaland, Uttarakhand, Punjab & Tamil Nadu

What came in as a major decision from the President of India, new governors has been appointed in four states across in India, namely, Nagaland, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Tamil Nadu, through an official communication order issued.

A press communicatiion issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan recently confirmed that President Ram Nath Kovind has appointed new governors in four states across the country, namely Nagaland, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Tamil Nadu.

The appointment order named Lt. Gen. Gurmit Singh (retd) as the Governor of Uttarakhand after incumbent governor Baby Rani Maurya tendered her resignation from the post. Gurmit Singh, was priorly a deputy chief of Army, and is presently retired is nominated the governor of Uttarakhand, a post which fell vacant after Baby Rani Maurya tendered her resignation. Singh is a graduate from the Defence Services Staff Course and National Defence College also holds two M.Phils from Chennai and Indore universities besides being a research scholar on India-China Boundary Issue in the Institute of Chinese Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, during his study leave from the Indian Army.

The order issued also confirmed that President  Kovind also ordered shuffling of governors in the states of Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Uttarakhand, including shifting Banwarilal Purohit from Tamil Nadu to Punjab. He was earlier holding an additional charge of Punjab.

Another retired IPS officer RN Ravi has been shifted from Nagaland to Tamil Nadu as its new governor.

Jagdish Mukhi, who is presently the governor of Assam, has been appointed to discharge the functions of the governor of Nagaland in addition to his charge till a fresh appointment is made, the communique said. On the other hand the incumbent Governor of Nagaland, R N Ravi is shifted to Tamil Nadu

The above appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices.
