When in doubt, look for newer ideas. And turn to your institutions for newer ideas.
India has its IIMs and IITs — it's own Ivy League institutions where, it’s said, admission is more difficult than admission to Harvard.
IIMs are India’s pride. They have produced leaders — in and outside boardrooms. IIMs help one with life skills and life lessons to succeed in just any walk of life.
In India’s top B-schools, IIMs are joined by other private schools and government institutions.
But, then, these schools should also be able to help tide over crises — like the current slowdown, for instance. It’s here that the significance of an institution is tested.
BW Businessworld publishes its B-school issue once every year. It provides the most definitive B-school rankings. It talks about the newest trends and news in the B-school space. It also gets thought leaders to speak their minds on key issues.
This issue of BW Businesworld presents the much-awaited annual B-school rankings. There are some interesting developments. The distance between IIM-A and IIM-B has, for instance, shrunk. Some of the newer IIMs have managed to get over teething troubles to leave a mark in many key areas. Government schools like FMS, Delhi continue to shine.
There are some interesting trends in the B-school ecosystem that need to be highlighted.
One, the curriculum needs to be revised frequently. Institutions need to be given a free hand here. And, even faculty members need to be given the freedom to see if they wish to have changed in the curriculum, in keeping with industry needs.
Two, the nature of work has changed. In future, there wouldn’t be lifelong employments. Instead, firms and companies will use the skillsets of the workforce acquired in schools.
Three, students will turn entrepreneurs and risk-takers rather than seeking lifelong job security.
As India embarks on the road to being $5-trillion and $10-trillion economy, these schools and their alumni will have a key role.
For mentoring these students, and for building these institutions, B-school directors will have the all-important role of steering the ship, and making sure they remain global and competitive.
In this special annual issue of BW Businessworld, we present you the newest trends in B-school education. You also get to hear from global leaders and the directors of top B-schools.
This issue of BW Businessworld will be especially useful for students, managers, industry and academia.
