My Boss Is Trying To Be My Friend. He Is A Good Person But I Don’t Feel Like Going Out With Him Or Sharing Personal Talks With Him. How Do I Handle The Situation Without Offending Him?

I don't like sharing my personal stuff with my boss. He asks me for a coffee every other day and shows interest in my family matters. I don't feel comfortable. What should I do?

Navigating relationships at the workplace can be stressful sometimes, especially if your boss is trying to push the boundaries beyond the professional. It is understandable that this rattles you. No one wants to offend their boss, because one does not wants to incur their wrath. I would suggest that you stand your ground and reveal only as much as you are comfortable with. Over time when he notices your reservation he might back off. In the event that he doesn’t and it continues to be a pebble in your shoe, approaching HR is always an option. Although that implies escalation, feeling comfortable at your workplace is your right. Hopefully the HR in your company is wise enough to handle the issue tactfully.
