Meet Neelesh Kumar Sah: The New JS For Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change

The 1997 batch IA&AS officer has been appointed for a tenure of five years

Neelesh Kumar Sah has been appointed as the Joint Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change for a tenure of five years. Neelesh belongs to the 1997 batch of the Indian Audit and Accounts Service. 

He holds a B. Tech degree in Mining Engineering from the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, also called IIT Dhanbad now. He later pursued a post-graduate diploma in Business Management from IIM, Calcutta. He is also a CIA by qualification.

From 2006 to 2009, he held the charge for the Office of Comptroller and Auditor General of India as Director (Information Technology Audits). He was earlier posted at Shimla in the National Academy of Audit and Accounts as the Assistant Accountant General. He later moved to Bihar, Ranchi as the Assistant Accountant General in the Office of the Principal Accountant General. 

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the appointment of 44 officers under different ministries. The committee is headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He was awarded the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration in 2008 for his active role in the development of IT Audit.

He has also served in Afghanistan for more than two years. He was the Technical Specialist for Fraud and Corruption Detection under UNDP’s Accountability and Transparency Project.

He has been a regular faculty at prestigious institutions like NISG, Hyderabad; NIFM, Faridabad etc
