Social media giant Facebook is reportedly making a smartwatch with cellular connectivity. This news took the internet by storm, reflecting the opportunity in the wearable devices market. In India too, the segment has witnessed a steep increase in demand over the past few years, with estimates suggesting that the market would reach a sales volume of 16.2 million units by 2024 as against 4.72 million in 2019. Though some of the most prominent names in the segment are global players such as Apple and FitBit, a few Indian audio and wearable brands have captured the market significantly, giving their international counterparts a run for their money.

boAt: This Delhi-based brand is one of the frontrunners in the segment with a wide product range, including earphones, headphones and smartwatches. According to International Data Corporation’s market report, the brand was recently adjudged the fifth-biggest wearable brand in the world. The brand was launched in 2016 by entrepreneurs Sameer Mehta and Aman Gupta, and claims to have served nearly 20 million Indian users till date. The founders attribute the success of the brand to millions of reviews that enabled them streamlining their technology and product needs in accordance with the Indian consumers. While the company initially reached out to customers through online channels, the real growth was realized following the expansion to offline channels.
Fire-Boltt: This is another leading Indian brand in the audio and wearable segment, which makes premium audio, fitness and fashion products combined with inovative technology. Founded by young entrepreneurs Aayushi and Arnav Kishore, the brand offers a unique reward system through its app. Users can earn the rewards by using Fire-Boltt devices as well as by watching movies and listening to music. The app is home to some of the leading entertainment platforms and had already crossed the 1 million user mark within a short span of its launch. The product range of the brand includes Bluetooth Earphones, Bluetooth Headphones, True Wireless Earbuds, Bluetooth Speakers, Smart Wearables, Lifestyle Shoes & software. Fire-Boltt’s smartwatch with SPO2 tracker recently made it to the top 4 best selling devices in the segment on Amazon.
Noise: The brand, founded by entrepreneurs Amit and Gaurav Khatri, began its journey as a manufacturer of smartphone cases and accessories, and later expanded into wearable technology. It was among the first brands in the country to launch true wireless earbuds. The company boasts of making the latest personal technology accessories available and affordable to young Indian consumers. In 2019, the brand was recognized for being the biggest Indian seller of wireless earphones in the country. Noise has an in-house R&D and design team, which works with original design manufacturers outside the country. The founders say that they stay ahead of the competition by implementing customer feedback in all their new offerings.
