The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) was slated to unveil India's roster for the T20 World Cup, which begins on October 17 in the United Arab Emirates, The surprise selections and omissions were expected to dominate the news on Wednesday. The former India captain took centre stage as team secretary Jay Shah announced MS Dhoni's candidature as a World Cup adviser.

Despite claims of a conflict of interest, the BCCI has appointed former cricket captain MS Dhoni as the Indian cricket team's consultant for the forthcoming T20 World Cup. The BCCI secretary expressed his delight that Dhoni accepted to serve as a coach for Virat Kohli and his team in what is a critical job.

The proposition was subsequently presented to skipper Virat Kohli and vice-captain Rohit Sharma, both of whom accepted.

The BCCI secretary then conferred with India's head coach, Ravi Shastri, regarding his final responsibilities before the T20 World Cup. MS Dhoni will travel as a mentor, according to Shah, and will take on a comparable job with equal responsibilities.

Shastri praised the concept, stating that Dhoni would be a good mentor and that the team would benefit from the appointment.

Shah then presented it to the BCCI, where he discussed it with his peers until the board approved the appointment on Wednesday.

Dhoni's three ICC victories, including the T20 World Cup in 2007 and the WC in 2011, would come in handy as India prepares for the T20 World Cup, which appears to be a close-knit edition. Dhoni got along well with Ravi Shastri, the team's head coach, and captain Virat Kohli. He commands respect in the locker room, with many of the young players selected on Wednesday looking up to the former captain.

After Ravi Shastri's excellent time as India's head coach comes to an end during the T20 World Cup, the country will look for a new coach. While Dhoni is unlikely to take over as a coach anytime soon, the BCCI may hire him as a consultant for special occasions.

India will host the World Cup in 2023. Virat Kohli's team will also compete in the T20 World Cup, which will be held in Australia in October and November of next year.

MS Dhoni confirmed his retirement from international cricket on August 15, 2020. However, he has continued to play in the IPL for the Chennai Super Kings. Dhoni arrived in the UAE last month and has been training with a few of his CSK colleagues in preparation for the IPL's return.
