London Startups Pitch At The Vizag $1 Million Challenge

London is the gateway to Europe’s thriving start-up ecosystem with entrepreneurs innovating across sectors including Fintech, AgriTech and Emerging Technologies. Promising startups embraced the $1 Million Challenge, a Govt of Andhra Pradesh, India initiative as part of the Vizag Fintech Festival.

Global startup challenge roadshow, AP $1 Million Global Challenge today held its London event at Visa Innovation Center. More than 150 startups applied for the challenge and went through a screening process.

  • More than 100 delegates participated including those from Corporates such as Ford, Visa, Start-ups, and Investment Firms. 
  • Over 20 finalist start-ups pitched in the areas of FinTech, EmergeTech and AgriTech. 
  • Roadshow that started a month ago in Chicago, after covering NY, San Francisco, TelAviv, Hong Kong, Paris completed the global destinations with London and continues to Bangalore on Oct 10 th, 2018 as the final destination of the global roadshow. 
  • 25 Finalists across the 8 locations will be announced by October 12th who will be awarded $10K prize money. 6 winners will be awarded seed funding of minimum USD 100K and incubation facilities at Vizag Fintech festival, October 22 – 26, 2018.

“London is the epi-center of innovation in Europe across sectors and have a deeper understanding of the Indian market; the AP Govt will be working with these startups in a collaborative manner to ensure Indian Digital Transformation benefits from innovative global solutions”, said Mr. JA Chowdary, Special Chief Secretary and IT Advisor to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. 

The AP $1 Million startup challenge delegation included Mr JA Chowdary, Advisor to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and Dharmendra Sunkara, CEO of AP FinTech Valley, Lakshmi Potluri, CEO of DCF Ventures and Jason Weiss, Axis Innovations.

The 6 start-ups short-listed as the top qualifiers were Orbo, AssetVault, Zasti, SmartFertilizer, Desolenator, Brainpool.

Judges included prominent members of the London startup ecosystem as well as the corporates – Mark Pettit, Executive Director, Partnerships and Venture, Visa, Alison Fowler, Mobility Director, Ford and Endre Sagi, Principal, C5 Capital to name a few. 

Vizag FinTech festival is a global innovation event to bring together an eco-system of new generation of innovation partners, incubators and corporations from around the world. Andhra Pradesh, a gateway to digital India is promoting entrepreneurship by giving access to 5 M’s - Money, Market, Mentoring, Manpower and Meetups.
