Jumping On The Bandwagon
A sarcastic humourous take on what you do when your kids grow up

How are you getting along now that your children are all grown up with careers of their own?
I am fine, but I need to do something to keep busy and above all be in the news and limelight, now that I don’t have to look after the kids.
So what are you planning to do?
I want to do something that will keep me in the headlines and on the covers of magazines as a great entrepreneur.
Have you tried writing a book of your memoirs or a fiction novel?
I have done that already but that’s a passing thing.
Have you thought of taking up acting on the silver screen since you are related to some Bollywood stars and they are nearly like family for you?
I was thinking of that and tested the acting waters with a short film but that was a one-time shot.
Have you thought of becoming a columnist and give advice about life, nature and the wonders of spirituality? That is very much in vogue now.
I have done that – penned my thoughts on all subjects on life, parenting, love, the world, but that was a short-lived thrill.
How about going in for designing- that is the Big Thing, nearly every Sita, Gita and Mita are trying it out?
I have that in mind but must go about it carefully.
You are right you have no knowledge of fashion or jewellery designing so must be careful so that you are not a flop.
There are so many celebrities as well as Bollywood stars that have started their labels, so it doesn’t seem to be very difficult.
It’s not difficult to start, what is difficult, is to last out.
I have to be really careful that I stay in the limelight all the time with my fashion label.
That will not be easy since all the celebrities who started their labels with a Big Bang have disappeared into the woodwork. Have you ever heard or seen anyone wearing their labels, except they are sporting their own brand?
I will ensure that I team up with a top designer and have a great launch, a lot of publicity and aggressive PR.
That is good, I hope you last out and are not just a ‘one-collection’ wonder.
I have done a lot of homework. My label will be so versatile that mothers and daughters will be able to wear the same clothes.
That will definitely make the husbands/fathers thrilled, as they will ‘kill two birds with one stone’.
Well the only problem will be the sizing.
Don’t worry create oversized, anti-fit clothes, since they are in vogue and both Mum and daughter will be happy.
You are so right, I’m off to tell my trained designer to get to work, since after all it’s my name on the label that will sell the clothes.
Best of luck for jumping on the bandwagon, but if names sold clothes then Rembrandt would have been a fashion designer too.
