JICA Promotes Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Railway Project
The memorandum signed by Indian and Japanese entities will facilitate consulting work for the project that links the country's two important cities

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has signed a memorandum with India's Ministry of Railways and National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRC) to promote the high-speed railway project linking Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
NHSRC is the new agency in charge of implementing the project. The joint venture that includes Japan International Consultants for Transportation Co Ltd(JIC), NIPPON KOEI CO, LTD and Oriental Consultants Global Co Ltd will carrying out general consultancy work for the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Railway Construction Project.
The memorandum was signed by Toru Arai, Director General of the South Asia Department, JICA, Achal Khare, Adviser Infrastructure, Railway Board, Ministry of Railways, and Coordinating Director, NHSRC, and Takashi Yamazaki, President of JIC in the presence of Suresh Prabhu, Minister for Railways, Kenko Sone, Minister, Embassy of Japan, and Dr Shinichi Kitaoka, President of JICA.
The joint venture will provide design and bidding assistance for the public works and systems required for the construction of a high-speed railway linking two Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The project was agreed at the Japan-India Summit Meeting held in December 2015.
The signing of this memorandum, which confirms the methodology of the project's work by the parties involved, including the Ministry of Railway and NHSRC, marks an important step towards actual project implementation.
