The Democracy Index is an index compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), a UK-based company. It intends to measure the state of democracy in 167 countries, of which 166 are sovereign states and 164 are UN member states.

The nations consistently blaming India for human rights violation on public platforms like Turkey scored 4.09 and stood at 110th position, making it even poor than Pakistan on democratic front. China on the same index scored a poor 2.26 and managed to secure 153rd position. Bangladesh secured 80th position with 5.88 points and with 2.85 points Afghanistan secured 141st rank.

With 7.16 points Malaysia is the only nations managed to get a better position than India on the Index and stood at 43 rank along with Trinidad and Tobago.

The report also takes a dig at recent surge in global protests and widespread unrest. There was a major increase in political protest and social unrest in emerging-market regions of the world says report. Terming it as biggest upsurge of protest since 2014, the report suggests it as the aftermath of the global economic and financial crisis.
