IndiGo Airlines has retained its crown as the leader in the Indian skies, according to data released by the DGCA for the month of July. The carrier has held on to 35.8 per cent of the marketshare which is down from June’s 38 per cent.

Jet Airways and Jet Lite together come in at second place with a combined 22.8 per cent marketshare which is 1.7 per cent up from the previous month. Air India and SpiceJet continue to be the third and fourth largest players with 16.2 per cent and 12.3 per cent marketshare respectively, nearly the same as they had in June.

However, what is significant is that in terms of passenger load, SpiceJet tops the chart reporting a 93.4 per cent occupancy for July while industry leader, IndiGo reports 78.4 per cent occupancy which is 8.2 per cent down from the previous month.

In terms of over all growth in terms of passengers carried, the domestic airlines collectively have clocked in a 21.13 per cent growth with 455.78 lakh passengers for January-July 2015 against the 376.28 lakh for the same period last year.
