In Search Of The Pioneers

If internet is the information highway, Google is its brand name. It may sound sacrilegious, but true. Google Speaks is an attempt to reinforce the truth. Janet Lowe has written one more technically and politically correct book in her series of ‘Speaks' bestsellers such as Warren Buffett Speaks and Bill Gates Speaks.

Lowe tracks the education, social and political background and personality of the Google founders. "Both Sergey (Brin) and Larry (Page) are notorious workaholics," says the author. She highlights the benefits of the Montessori method of elementary education, popularised by Italian educator Maria Montessori, on both the entrepreneurs. "Montessori believed children wanted to learn and that development came in stages… As a result, children often became more self-managing, responsible and committed to lifelong learning. Certainly, her methods seemed to have shaped both Sergey and Larry," writes Lowe.

The book deftly analyses the personality of the two brilliant men who reiterated the American dream of ‘anything is possible'. It highlights the ease with which the two men took Google to where it is now. Lowe beautifully puts together the personality of Sergey and Larry, showing their approach to life, business, family, employees and shareholders. The author presents five nuggets of the Google business story, as lessons learnt from Larry and Sergey. And they are pin-ups for aspiring young entrepreneurs. A well compiled time line and  a crisp glossary are added highlights.
