Improve Your English Test Score With Simple Tips

There has been a constant rise in the number of Indian students enrolling for a degree away from their home country. However, the process of flying overseas to study is a tedious one as apart from the various passport and immigration complexities, a student also must prepare for English language exams to be even eligible for getting into the college or course he/she aspires for. Hence, the initial step for them is, to begin with, the preparation for the standardized English language tests to get the admission in desired college or university. While planning to study abroad, it becomes mandatory for the students to score in English test based on four key aspects: speaking, writing, reading, and listening.

A learner must understand his/her current English proficiency level to prepare accordingly and improvise. Preparation requires hours of practising and one should focus on the weaker areas first to gain an understanding and acquire skills.   Here are a few simple tips and tricks one should consider to conquer the test:

1. Reading Newspapers: Enhancing Vocabulary

Newspapers are most informative and reliable source to improve vocabulary. Learners should initiate reading newspapers to grasp new words and build vocabulary. Reading the newspaper on a daily basis will not only assist students to get exposed to new words but one can also learn how to use these words and in what context. Especially the editorial columns of the newspaper which are enriched with words can prove to be a good exercise. Reading these article will enhance pronunciation skills of students as well. And in order test vocabulary skills, one can try to solve a crossword puzzle in the newspaper to upskill vocabulary.

2. Improvising Listening Skills

Listening to real-life situations is more effective and motivating as compared to written workbook exercises. For effective listening, one can begin with listening to the radio, news channels and audio books. Effective listening skills will help enhance verbal communication. Also practising writing a summary of a listening text will help to capture the words in mind and understand the formation of sentences.

3. Practice with Preparation Resources

In order to hone the skills, a learner can choose quality preparation coursebooks or resources from PTE Academic to practice grammar, oral fluency, pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary, written, communicative skills to improve the English language ability. The preparatory resources will enable the learner to examine how much knowledge he/she has imbibed so far and work towards further preparation.

Before taking an English proficiency exam, be sure to check which tests are accepted by the institution you are applying to. Make sure you have also checked the score you need, as each sets its own requirement.
