Ashish Nanda, the director of Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Ahmedabad resigned from his post on Thursday citing personal reasons. He will step down from the post on 1 September for smooth transition.

Nanda, in his letter addressed to the institution, said, that he want to spend more time with his wife and son. “On 1 September, it will be four years since I took charge,” Nanda said. “It is a good time to step aside and hand over the responsibility and honour of leading the institute to the next, fortunate person.”

Kumar Mangalam Birla, chairman of the IIM-A board of governors, has accepted his resignation. “Dear Prof. Nanda, I have received your resignation dated 26/4/2017. We have had a conversation about this for the past couple of weeks, and I fully understand your need to be with family and the inconvenience that the separation is causing you. Hence, I accept your resignation, albeit with regret,” Birla said in his acceptance letter to Nanda.

Nanda took charge as IIM-A director on 2 September 2013. Prior to this, he was a faculty member at Harvard Business School.

Nanda has a PhD in Business Economics (Harvard), MA in Economics (Harvard), PGDM in Management (IIM-Ahmedabad), and B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (IIT-Delhi).
