I Feel Life Is Really An Opportunity, Says Ashish Vidyarthi

Work-life balance juggling tires us. It gives rise to this wonderful thing called stress. It is wonderful if each of us get that  and if we maximise and pay attention to the part we are playing, being in the moment and being extraordinary in what we do.
It (being in the moment) will leave you fulfilled in each moment. It will give you hope, creativity and allow you to paint your life and that is what I talk to people about. Let’s not talk about problems, for they will always remain,  but about having access to this moment and being a support to people in finding this access.

I have spoken at more than a hundred organisations in India and abroad. What I learned was  that there is a continuous and constant need to learn.  

Initially, I had no clue about what was happening (not that I have any clue now), but I just had to be inquisitive about it. I discovered that when I go to conferences and keynotes, if I reach early morning,  just before the gala event and sit through  it through the entire day, I learn the most from industry people.

We actors have the mentality to absorb. I being a vidyarthy (student) by virtue of my name, knowing something about it allows me to bring my own uniqueness (to the event). I curate each event differently and have a different story every time.

We create an interesting conversation (and not just a good talk) about the things that matter. Generic ideas don’t evoke interest. We ignite our minds and the ignited mind sees a possibility which it hadn’t earlier. It’s a chain. As you ignite, people around you get ignited and the group collectively feels they can. The extraordinary set of ‘I’ gets converted into an extraordinary set of  ‘We’.

Nothing in life happens without preparations. What looks amazingly simple, is the outcome of a lot of work. We believe that without background preparations, there is nothing. It’s a process similar to what an actor does when approaching a role. I approach an organisation or a workshop anyone wants me to design, in a similar fashion.

Not all have the same life. We make individual choices within us and there is a certain lumping we do together, but each one of us is unique. Each person who interviews me is unique. All professionals are unique. We are not like anybody else. We always say, ‘my life is like that’, not ‘our life is like that’. So we should stop lumping in ourselves into a bucket and say ‘our life’, and instead say, ‘my life’.

I am an actor and so are you. What we are talking about is communication. We have to be responsible for what lands on people. We often hear people say, ‘Didn’t I tell you, hey didn’t you get it?’ So, the rule is that ‘it is my responsibility’. So stories are something that engage people. It amazes them to see what is happening in life.

I have noticed that when organisations around the world become human-centric organisations, they deliver things and yet have the highest level of empathy. What they do in their work for their organisation inspires me.

Making people realise the extraordinary and having the huge empathy that they are responsible to the organisation is the idea. I envision organisations all over the world reaching out to us and allowing us to contribute. (When organisations have empathy) their employees feel that they have something amazing to contribute to the organisation and to their own life.

I feel life is really an opportunity  and not by chance. We are here, a lot many of us never made it, some born are not here, but we are  and if we are here, we need to make it matter to the family and the workplace. We really need to go out and touch the lives of others. Each one of us who are in this world can make something happen from this small work we are doing!
