How People Are Moving Back To Dairy Products
With increasing awareness about health among people and what they eat and drink, they are moving back to the original health foods like vegetables, fruits and dairy products.

It wasn’t too long ago that the wave of health craze started, and it is only continuing to grow. People now are much more aware of their health, and are conscious about what they eat. It has become a norm to check the ingredients and their levels in food before eating; people prefer eating food with low fat, low levels of sugar and some are even going the gluten-free way. In the process, people have been dropping carbonated drinks and are making a switch to healthier options, including milk. Milk can easily be called India’s original health drink; everyone in India has grown up drinking milk and other products made from it, like chaach, dahi, lassi. India is actually the second biggest producer of milk in the world. With no artificial additions to it, milk has very high nutritional value as it provides things like calcium, vitamin D, vitamin B and potassium among others.
In older times, people had limited options to choose from; hence their go to drink was milk products, like buttermilk, lassi. Then came carbonated drinks, with added flavours and large amounts of sugar. With companies launching a variety of carbonated drinks, people immediately made a shift to these drinks, for the new taste and the flavours, and beverage soon became synonymous with carbonated drinks. However, the harmful effects soon started showing; these drinks are claimed to increase risks of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, liver damage. The consumption of carbonated drinks was at an all time high in the 90s and early 2000s; however, as health risks and ailments started increasing, people started realising the harmful effects of these drinks and started moving to healthier options. Even packaged juices, which are considered to be healthy have huge amounts of sugar in them.
Earlier the only way of buying milk in India was through the unorganized sector. People trusted their local doodhwalas more than packaged milk. The options of consuming milk were also limited, you could either consume plain milk or turn it into dahi, chaach or lassi. People often turned away from milk products because of the lack of variety and taste, which is what they found in carbonated drinks. However, with new times came new ways of consuming milk. Now, there are flavoured milk, shakes, probiotic drinks, flavoured yoghurt, raita, flavoured lassi and a number of other milk products in the market consumers can choose from. These products not only provide taste, but also are a source of nutrition. All the health benefits you can get from milk, you can get from these products. Processes like fortification further make sure that nutrients are added to packaged milk products. Companies have found a way to bring an interesting twist the original drink of India, i.e. milk and provide it as different products, consisting both taste and health. People also prefer these products over carbonated drinks now.
Due to people’s move to healthy food products, soft drink companies also decided to step into the healthy drinks industry. Apart from products like, low sugar soft drinks, companies have plans to bring products like lemon drinks and vegetable milk in the market. Other than that, since the dairy industry has been blooming lately, these companies also have plans to establish in the industry in coming time.
With increasing awareness about health among people and what they eat and drink, they are moving back to the original health foods like vegetables, fruits and dairy products. However, being the new generation, they are doing it with a twist and companies are ready to cater to their needs with their own array of healthy products.
