India is undergoing a major digital transformation with the rapidly rising popularity of numerous data-hungry applications. The growing popularity of video, gaming, and cloud have led to a massive growth of data consumption – and this growth won’t be slowing down anytime soon, especially as there’s an increased shift to remote working. In fact, India's data traffic is expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 72.6%, according to the ASSOCHAM-PwC study. The COVID-19 pandemic has further accelerated this digitization as reliance on connectivity is reaching new levels driven by e-learning, e-health and online shopping as well as popular apps like Zoom™ and Houseparty™.
Going remote requires a new approach
The foundation for supporting today’s new remote lifestyle is a telecom network that can adapt and scale to constantly changing requirements. Many existing networks are not equipped to address the unprecedented surge in data consumption. This growing reliance on online platforms means that network operators need to change the way networks are deployed and managed. This transformation will also open new opportunities for network providers as it prepares networks for 5G and innovative use cases like Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) and Industry 4.0, among several others.
Leveraging AI drives efficiencies 

Remote working along with many other emerging technologies such as gaming, cloud, and Internet of Things (IoT) are driving networks to deliver new and immersive services that are complex. Artificial Intelligence (AI) can play a key role in efficiently managing the massive amounts of data that networks produce.

Why networks need AI to thrive
AI assisted automation is emerging as a key technology of choice for network providers to bring down operating expense even as they are able to provide top-notch network experience. AI-driven analytics empower network providers to examine customer behaviour and accordingly alter their offerings. AI also allows network providers to proactively address network issue even before the user starts to experience a drop in network performance.

Automation helps network providers to automate several repetitive tasks to simplify network management and improve network efficiency. Network simplification also helps network providers accelerate the time to bring new services to the market. Further when complimented with AI , automation can augment the customer experience and ease operational challenges for service providers through predictive analytics based pre-emptive actions on the network.

The time is right for network providers to start leveraging AI and automation, so they are better able to manage the evolving customer needs. It allows the network providers to build an adaptive network that is easier to manage, programmable, and scalable, leading to the faster launch of new services and quick resolution to network issues.
