Here Is All You Need To Know About Charanjit Singh Channi- Newly-elected Punjab Chief Minister

On Monday, Charanjit Singh Channi was sworn in as Punjab's new Chief Minister at the Raj Bhawan in Chandigarh.

Along with Channi, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa of Dera Baba Nanak and Om Prakash Soni of Amritsar Central were sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers. Both deputy chief ministers are from the Majha district of Punjab.

Rahul Gandhi, the Congress leader, and Navjot Singh Sidhu, the chairman of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), both attended the ceremony.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the newly chosen Punjab Chief Minister on Twitter, stating, Will continue to work with the Punjab administration for the benefit of the Punjab people.

The nomination of Charanjit Singh Channi as Punjab Chief Minister will help the party court the Dalit vote in the next elections. The Dalit minority accounts for around 30% of the state's population, including both Sikhs and Hindus.

Who is Charanjit Singh Channi?

Charanjit Singh Channi is a Ramdasia Sikh who, at the age of 47, was appointed as a cabinet minister in Capt. Amrinder Singh's ministry in Punjab on March 16, 2017.

Congressman Harish Rawat announced on Twitter that Charanjit Singh Channi has been overwhelmingly elected Leader of the Congress Legislature Party of Punjab.

According to the PRO, Punjab Raj Bhawan (Governor's House, Punjab), senior Congress leader Harish Rawat will visit Punjab Raj Bhawan, Chandigarh, at 6:30 PM., to meet with the Governor.

Captain Amarinder Singh, who resigned as Punjab chief minister on Saturday following months of fighting with Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) leader Navjot Singh Sidhu, would be succeeded by Channi. These incidents occurred just a few months before the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections.
