Social media platform Helo has partnered with the National Commission for Women to promote women’s empowerment and gender equality. They will jointly launch and promote a number of campaigns through the year, beginning with International Women’s Day. Echoing this year’s theme #EachForEqual” in word and spirit, as well as putting the spotlight on pressing issues related to women’s rights in India, the #Women’s Rights Matter campaign on Helo will encourage millions of women to share inspiring stories in 10 regional languages.
While women have come a long way in terms of their rights and status over the last decade, women across the country are still struggling with gender inequality, issues of domestic violence, dowry, and the like, and crimes against women remain high. As per the latest figures shared by the National Crimes Record Bureau, around 3.5 lakh crimes against women are reported across India each year. Safety aside, women face various challenges like improper access to nutrition, education, and ultimately unequal career opportunities.
International Women's Day is an important occasion to highlight some of these issues and Helo’s collaboration with National Commission for Women (NCW) will play a significant role in spreading awareness and education on the subject. The National Commission for Women is planning to launch a simple quiz in 10 different languages to generate user awareness.
Rekha Sharma, Chairperson of National Commission for Women said, “On the occasion of International Women’s Day, I present to you all an exciting activity to engage yourself towards commitment of exercising gender equality on Helo, and I’m hopeful that users will find this material useful and interesting in form of the quiz. This will educate, sensitise and generate awareness on gender issues and laws relating to women. It will facilitate inculcating values of equality, inclusivity and diversity, which are essential for building a healthy society, and through this interactive activity, our objective is to ignite young minds to think objectively and rationally to help to move towards a gender-balanced society.”
Launching the #WomenRightsMatter campaign between March 3thand March 8th, a Helo spokesperson said, “In India, there are countless stories of women who face discrimination every day but fight back. These stories need a platform and they need to be shared in their mother tongue. As we celebrate women on International Women’s Day, we are happy to partner with The National Commission for Women and highlight issues, create awareness and also share exemplary stories of women who are making a difference. Actors Shraddha Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor will share videos on Helo to inspire users to share their stories and make a difference.
