Military tensions along the disputed India-China border seem to be getting worse, three months after their deadliest confrontation in decades. Both the countries are using everything to tackle the situation. Using technologies to monitor the security is one of the most important aspects during such times. With the rapid advancements in technologies usage of military wearables have become an integral part of the defence sector.

The military wearables market is expected to grow from USD 4.2 billion in 2019 to USD 6.4 billion by 2025, at a CAGR of 7.2% from 2019 to 2025. The increasing need for soldier coordination and training, rising asymmetric warfare, alleged geopolitical conflicts, and soldier modernization programs, among others are some of the factors that are fuelling the growth of the military wearables market. Growing investments in the development and of advanced wearable technologies to overcome limitations of existing military wearables is also contributing to the growth of this market.

Smartwatches, helmets, other protective gears, tools for working underground, camera and communication gadgets are used as wearable technologies in defence forces. Soldiers are equipped with wristwatches, armed bands, modified headgears, goggles or even fingerings with very small sensors designed for specific purposes. One of the important wearable devices is smartwatches. Some of the smartwatches consist of small and smart sensors which facilitate easy and real-time transfer of data, images, audios and videos.

These Smartwatches have some features that are specially designed for the defence professional such as jumpmaster, dual-position format that helps them to hide their real-time location with the enemies, night vision feature that helps them in patrolling in remote areas during night and stealth mode along with other preloaded tactical activities.

They have some features that keep the location of the defence professional secret, with dual position format, detects the longitude, latitude and MGRS on the same screen so that one can easily coordinate his position with others team members, the jumpmaster activity follows monitoring guidelines for calculating high altitudes release points by inputting the desired impact points and winds.

These specially designed smartwatches for defence forces are built-in navigation sensors like GPS, GLONASS and Galileo that helps them to detect the enemies in the nearby locations. Using these watches they can even navigate the same route back to the starting point or even plan trips in advance. They screens coronary heart price, exercise, and stress, offering preloaded exercise profiles for coaching and permits defence professionals to remain related to sensible notifications.

Smartwatches help security forces to navigate the objective once jumped during any operations, on the ground and distance to project a waypoint and follow the route across the terrain, the kill switch feature of this watch clear all security memory of the user, in stealth mode defence professional device can share his GPS location, collect distance and physiological barrier even at a site of security concerns, location of the user using smartwatches has not to be disclosed even if the activity is shared to enemy forces or even if the device is physically captured.

Apart from the soldier, such technologies in smartwatches also find utility for the person undertaking ground maintenance and jobs with the support domains. Usage of smartwatches in defence forces offer untapped opportunities for efficiency improvements and cost savings, safety, usability and efficiency. They also have the capability of augmenting the sensing capability, providing artificial intelligence-based solutions, cognitive abilities and augmenting reality. Soldiers get timely information which assists them in furtherance of their campaign.

Both operational and strategic levels such smartwatches could even make a wider impact and offer solutions to the various battlefield and other related necessities. Most importantly such smartwatches to allow the military personnel more freedom of action.
