As far as Indian business schools go, the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) continues to be the most sought after, as recruiters and rankings endorse year after year. This year, too, IIM-A is ranked No. 1 along with IIM-B in BW Businessworld ranking of India’s best B-schools.
The first autonomous institute in the country for management education, IIM-A has been churning out globally acclaimed business leaders for decades.
It is the first B-school in the country to be accredited European Quality Improvement System (EQUIS) by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD). The institute is also ranked among the top three B-schools of the country by the Union HRD ministry. IIM-A’s Vikram Sarabhai Library also bagged the UNESCO Asia Pacific Award for Cultural Heritage Conversation 2019 in the category of Award of Distinction.
The courses offered by the institute include a two-year full-time programme (PGP), a one-year full-time residential programme for experienced professionals (PGPX), and ePost Graduate Programme (ePGP) in Management. It also conducts a number of executive education and faculty development programmes. Recently, the institute announced its PGP in advanced business analytics scheduled to commence from the academic year 2020.
The institute has been grooming the leaders of tomorrow with its uniquely designed curriculum to create an impact on the socio-economic sector of the country. IIM-A believes in providing knowledge and learning through unified classroom experience with digital technology.
A large number of alumni from the institute have made a name for themselves. Among the BSE 500 CEOs, a large chunk has been groomed at IIM-A. Shikha Sharma, CEO, Axis Bank; Arvind Subramanian, Chief Economic Advisor, Government of India; Ajaypal Singh Banga, CEO, MasterCard; Raghuram Rajan, world-renowned economist, and former Governor of RBI; and Deep Kalra, Founder & CEO, MakeMyTrip.com are some of them.
Recently, the institute recorded a substantial hike in average compensation packages for domestic and international placements despite the economic instability of the country. Besides, the institute adopted green measures for its placement process this year. Instead of using paper to print CVs, they provided tablets to recruiters which had all the information about the candidates.
Apart from a stupendous placement record, the institute also pays special attention to ‘entrepreneurship’ — where students are allowed to opt-out of the placement process to kick-start their own ventures. And the opportunity is termed as ‘break’.
IIMA’s Centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) supports around 50 ventures every year through its accelerator programmes, incubation spaces and seed investment programmes.
IIM-A has close connections with the industry, policymakers and academia around the globe. The institute is affiliated to a number of leading business schools to deliver high-profile courses and has a deep engagement in research. Despite its rigorous coursework, IIM-A also encourages extra-curricular activities like sports, debates, dramatics, quizzing etcetera, to groom the students into well-rounded personalities.
Setting the standards for other business schools in the country, IIMA continues to grapple with the growing demand for a world-class education with its world-class faculty, grooming
world-class leaders who have a world-view to tackle any challenge.
